Need help beating dead horse, '73 20' Repower
Hi Folks,
I have read and reread posts discussing Etec G1 150 and Suzi 140 for repower but still am waffling on which one to go with and could really use the thoughts of the folks here. My Rig: '73 20 CC '95 Johnson FastStrike '12 Yamaha T8 kicker on port corner Replaced transom 15 years ago but just did to 20" again (yeah, I know better now). Planing speed around 18 mph Top end around 47 mph Renegade Offshore 17" No tabs but plan for Bennett Bolt with engine install I run on the Great Lakes, commonly running 30 miles in a day chasing temp breaks or mudlines. Also take the rig remote camping now and then so loaded down with gear for a week in the islands. I don't go full throttle all the time but like it when I need it to beat a storm off the lake. I know the Suzi probably is the better choice for long term service but I am very concerned I'll be disappointed with the performance going from my existing set up to the 140. I've reviewed the Suzuki Performance pages and the numbers are all over the place. The stats on the Blue Wave Pure Bay 2200 on their site look great with 17/49 planing and top end but a bunch of the other smaller boats show top end ~42. The BRP performance site is a PITA. I can't even work out a similar hull they've tested with a G1 on it. There are a couple on Ranger, Stratos, etc that have good numbers but, again, some of the numbers on the smaller aluminum hulls are not super different from the Suzi 140. I wish to beat hell there were a way to demo engines on boats but, as there is not, I am hoping the knowledge that resides here can help out. I have a line on a new G1 150 for about $2500 less than I could get a Suzi 140 installed for. Cost is a factor but performance concerns weigh more heavily on my mind. Thanks for reading the ramblings. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Scot

DF140 with the 20" pitch Suzuki 3 blade prop and done. Considering BRP dumped the E-tec and Evinrude line all together I wouldn't even consider them unless you are going with a used motor at a considerable discount.

I'm with moose...I have an older 140....04-06 I cant remember right now...I bought it second hand with about 350 salt water hours..(I 'm mostly brackish water in the delta) and the motor has been great...starts every time and quiet. To be fair I dont really get to boat all that much and when I do I need my motor to work properly.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback.
Not too many used 150s around where I am up here. I do have a line on a new G1 150 for around 40% off retail but still jittery about the warranty and service. I have wanted one on the back of this boat for 10 years so it's a hard shift away from it now that I have the need for it. So, leaning back towards the 140 now, just jumped on the Suzi site and see that they announced a new DF140BG for 2021, manufacturing to start in October. I am never going to get this damned boat in the water. Maybe time for a few more projects and that little transom rebuild I've been thinking about.
