18sf recondition pics etc.
Well, I was finally able to get to the boat this weekend. My wife and son went for a haircut so I figured I would start to prime the hull and do some investigation.
When I purchased this 18 SF I received the original title of the person that purchased this boat new. Utilizing the internet and other known sources etc. I was able to track the original owner down and spoke with him for about 1 hour regarding his 18SF. Turns out the original owner had the following done in 2005: Transom raised to 25" by a reputable shop (I still have to contact to verify!!!) Interlux perfect was used on exterior of hull as well as interior and deck! Fuel Tank was also replaced with fuel fill and vent hose. Also, the original owner stated he purchased boat with a 115 on the back end. I am still waiting on pictures and some more goodies from original owner via regular mail...will see what happens though..I know how that goes from previous experience!! Further, I am still going to pull inspection hatch for fuel tank to verify etc. With this new info, I decided to go ahead and sand down exterior of hull and prime with interlux epoxy primer and later I will shoot the interlux perfection going with original gelcoat color of an off white!!! ..Obviously took the guess work about what is on the hull currently so I felt confident in my proceeding with primer etc!!! I decided to give the ole $99.00 habour freight HVLP gun a try. I have used it in the past for louvered doors and spraying oil. It has worked out great so far for primer! This is my 11th boat in 7 years and the first one I have done with a gun as opposed to roll and tip..also the first one that is not going to get a shade of blue...We will see what happens..I might go back to roll and tip though for final coat!!! Attached are pics of boat hull before and after primer. From picture of HVLP from H. Freight to sanding of hull and final product with primer! I also included shot of Transom that I faired out prior to today!! Next step is to wait and sand primer and see what needs to be filled etc.. Then shoot or roll/tip topcoat. I also have 125 Merc being delivered to my friends shop in Jensen Beach (guess who!!!!..a moderator!!)for install that I will do!!! Much more to follow!!! I have included before and after pictures up to this pont! Last edited by fdheld34; 01-21-2012 at 06:00 PM. |
