Warm Pacific
I’ve had a ton of fantastic days on the Pacific, but none like Monday.
We launched from Newport, went south to the Dana headlands and then headed out 1/2 way across the channel. The water was glassy all day and the sea was alive with dolphins, sunfish, pelicans and dozens of huge bait balls. The surface temps hovered between 78 and 80 F, which led to frequent man overboards. I’ve NEVER seen the local waters this warm. If we break into the 70s, it’s unusual. To see 80 degrees in the middle of the channel was a huge surprise! The SeaFari behaved perfectly, breaking the 100 hour mark with grace. We ended up at Woody’s for dinner and margaritas, and got back to the launch ramp well after dark. We covered almost 80 miles with nary a hiccup. It was a day I’ll never forget, and I have my friends to thank for doing all the heavy lifting. ALS can kiss my butt; I’ve got lots of easy water ahead. |
