Default would this work?

The original deck in my boat is good shape, and I dont have loads of money and time to raise my deck, so I would like to keep it at the original height. My question is would it be effective to have the drains plugs come out the port and starboard side of the boat instead of the bottom, like you see in some flats boats? I would fill the hole in completely and redirect the hole to be through the gunnel. I am not too big on having the drains go straight through the bottom. I dont have my boat up here at school with me yet, so I cant see it, to see where the deck is in relation to the waterline at that point in the boat. I would think that that point in the boat is more forward of the stern, in front of those rear boxes, so would maybe be higher.
Thanks,
George
