1998 23' CC anchor rode locker

I have trouble getting the anchor line into or out of the rope locker in my 1998 23' CC. Does anyone else have this problem ? My anchor line is quite stiff and tends to bunch up in the locker, making it nearly impossible to pull it out without crawling below decks and hand feeding it. Would a softer, more pliable line solve this glitch? Any advice would be appreciated.
