Small Delam area in stern-need fix.
Well I have the boat sold. PENDING I repair a small soft spot in the deck. I took up the stern center compartment to see what I was dealing with. Ofcoarse there is a longitudinal stringer which stops me from doing work easily from underneath.
Here is the problem, in the port corner of the stern deck there is a small area that is soft 12" wide x 24" long. It gives the allusion that you will fall through. The deck is plywood glassed on both sides (top and bottom). The fiberglass on the bottom side is in good condition. It appears that water at some time seeped into the deck and rotted the wood, sperating the wood from the top layer of glass. I know that the bottom layer of glass will not fail, however the buyer is a little concerned. My plan is to drill 1/4" holes approx 3" OC both directions in this area through the top layer of glass and into the plywood. Let it dry for a few days then inject a thinset epoxy into the holes. Any pros/cons to this method? Does my spacing sound correct? Thanks -Rob |
