Default Buying a boat long distance.

I may be buying a boat in another state. I have scheduled a marine surveyor to go over it and a mechanic to check out the engine. Assuming all checks out I will fly there and give the boat a test run. Any advice? I don't want to send a deposit until I see the boat in person but I don't want to fly on short notice and have to pay the airfare premium. Should I negotiate a price before buying an airline ticket or wait till I see the boat to make sure I really want it?? Seller has indicated the price is negotiable. Should I be asking if any members of this site could go take a look at boat for me? This is new for me but I haven't found the boat I want locally.
