Ready for core! (Almost) 23SF
Been getting ready to core the transom on my 23 SF rebuild. I managed to get the bow out by the-bolting to a 3/4 ply sheet outside the transom. I glassed over the bolt heads and will grind out the glass over them and pop them out and repair those sections before setting the core.
the rest of the transom is flat overall, but there are some waves where I was a bit aggressive with the grinder removing the old core. The low spots are about 1/16th of an inch so my plan is to let the thickened epoxy fill them when I set the core. 4 layers of 1708 on the inside on top of the factory skin. I'll put 4 more on over the Coosa core. It's my first project like this, so it's easy to over-analyze. Lots of good help here though, so thanks! the last layer of 1708 I put down only covered the face, so I'm going to lay a nice neat 8" tab down the sides and bottom after I sand down some of the pooling. Two builders have told me the 1.5 inch Coosa will be sufficient with this layup schedule (I am mounting a stoner bracket). I am still considering gluing a 3/4 board to it to give me 2.25 since I have one. Probably overkill. |
