KEEP YOUR MOTOR WELL TUNED, GET A KICKER THAT WILL GET YOU HOME AND MOUNT ON STERN, RELAX AND GO OFFSHORE.

currently own a 74 23' tsunami.repowered it with a '99 260 efi mercruiser alpha gen ii.also did extensive work to make the boat in near perfect condition(new coaming pads, dash panel and guages, stripped bottom to gel coat and 7 coats of barrier, reglassed soft spots in deck).love the boat, but im getting a little chicken in my old age about heading offshore with one motor.do i repower with twins and a bracket(new 140 suzuki 4's look good) or sell this and start over? can anyone give me some ideas what the boat's worth(has about 100-125 hrs since repower).hull is all original gel coat and is in excellent shape.
thanks for any input! |

Bobfish, You may find compairables at www.boattraderonline.com other than that I would think a bracket and repower with 2 suzuki 140's would be at least a 20k job.
That's pretty much what I have in mind as well, I just need the boat, motors and bracket and I'm good to go. If the boat is priced right I may be interested if you decide to sell.

As finster said .... it will cost a bit to Bracket and Re-power .... HOWEVER…. If your happy with your hull and it performance… PLUS you know the condition its in.....I dont know as though I would let all that go unless you were looking to bigger....I'm sure you can sell the motor and outdrive that you currently have ..... the transom work would be limited to the hole that the outdrive leave (assuming the transom's in good shape to start) Buying a "new" boat is buying a whole lot of new "opportunities" (or problems depending on how you look at it) ...... Even if you found a really good deal on something, a hull, you would most likely spend that kind of money on engines and bracket anyhow.....plus a full restore of the rest of the boat ...in other words it would ultimately cost a lot more to start and finish a new project than to just re-power what you’ve got ... How I see it is you've got the hull where you want it ..... I would go for new power personally. |

Bobfish,
I agree with Jack. My project 23 has a 200 Yamaha and will get my tender's Honda 8 HP 4 stroke, which mounts on a stainless steel adjustable kicker mount. It pushes it at hull speed (7 mph) and I expect to get 3 mpg @ 4500 rpm, for a posible range of over 350 miles. That'll get ya home. A set of controls can be added to sweeten the set-up. You could probably put a 15 hp on a bracket with linkage and controls for $5,000. It's a popular option in the Great Lakes for trolling and cause it's cheap. I would guess your boat is worth between $15 and 20,000. With that cash in hand, you could consider another project, making it the way you want it. Bob, if you are truly worried, the kicker is great but if health may be an issue, buy an EPIRB. For $1000 is can be some further piece of mind.
