Default fuel tank relocation

I am just getting into a restoration of a 72' 20 center console. I need to replace alum fuel tank that is currently under the console. Has anyone placed a larger tank under the deck?

Welcome Waterlaw-

I am undergoing a complete restoration/rebuild of my 1969 20 CC and have put the fuel tank below the new deck.

When I purchased the boat it had a 20 gal tank in the console, a joke!!. For the new tank I chose a off the shelf florida marine tank from boaters world. It is their 55 gal belly tank. Is 55 gal enough? for me it is, I am planning on powering with a 4 stroke and will only use the boat close to shore.

I should have new pics of the tank and installation soon.

I also put two livewells under the deck. One aprox 40 gal and the other aprx 24 gal.

Thanks Trayder,
Off the shelf sounds much better on the budget! I am going to use the 115 merc for as long as I can, but 20 gallons just wont cut it, even inshore!

I just had a lot of work done on my 1970 20', and the next project is to put a bigger tank in the floor - I'm thinking 80 gal. The stringers allow for a 22" wide tank I believe so I will probably have to go custom. Heard that TNT (Ft. Pierce Fl.) does a good job - certified and reasonable.

Right now I have a 45 Gal in the console and with my 4 stroke this has a great range, but more is better and I want to mount the tank forward to change the attitude of the boat. Problem is the fishing has been so good that I hate to be without the boat, so it could be a while before this gets done.

what is the range on your four stroke, and what size motor? I may be rethinking cutting the floor since everything seems to be in good shape

Waterlaw,

My motor is a Honda 130 about 4 years old with 450 hours on the meter. I fish all day loaded with gear ice etc and usually 1 or 2 other anglers and use between 15 to 20 gallons. The fishing usually 8 - 15 miles offshore involves lots of slow trolling and the 4 stroke is perfect for this application - no smell and never sputters or misses.

I'd like a bigger tank to extend time between refueling and to get more storage out of my console (where my 45 gal is now).
