outboard tune up
i recently aquired a 115hp evinrude that has low hours and was professionally maintained except for last winter, i suspect that it wasn't winterized. any help as to how i could personally clean it up? it looks clean almost spotless but the not being winterized thing scares me a little. thanks for the help.

Re: outboard tune up
thanks for the help, i appreciate it. figured i'd ask around before messing with it.
john r- don't forget about the BI tourney, and tell a few if you think of it, should be quite fun if the size of bass right now is of any indication... |

Re: outboard tune up
Pull the spark plugs and squirt some oil,WD 40, or the like into each cylinder. Crank the motor a few times with the plugs out.Put new plugs in. Hook it up to a hose using muffs. Give it some fresh gas and oil and light it off. If everything works O.K. change the lower unit grease,do the general lube, and you're good to go.

Re: outboard tune up
I too had a 115 that sat for probably longer than yours. If you have fears, I would take it to someone you trust ( if there is such an animal) and spend the fee for a complete check. I did and it was the best $65.00 I spent. At least now I know what I have. Just so you know, I needed carbs rebuilt due to sitting and a stator.

Re: outboard tune up
Todd - there is nothing to really winterize, it's a 2 stroke and doesn't / shouldn't hold any fluids to freze and crack - even with last years weather... Should still go and lube up everything and then some but unlike a closed cooling 4 stroke, there are no cooling sections to anti-freeze. Might need the carbs cleaned or tuned...
