Foam Filled Stringer Grids
Good morning all. I've been a lurker here for a while and post a good bit on the Mako board. I'm rebuilding a 1970s Mako and thought I'd seek some opinions here as well, since Seacraft pioneered the foam stringers.
1. Are there any good links to projects here you'd recommend for a foam stringer grid? Someone at classic mako suggested Strick's method, but I cannot find it? 2. When building the grid, I notice alot of folks place as strip of wood, coosa, etc. on top of the stringer or bulkhead rather than resting the floor directly on the stringer or bulkhead..can someone help me understand why? Thanks for any assistance. Kevin |

Re: Foam Filled Stringer Grids
Ha Kevin;
The wood on top of the stringers is for the guys that have decided to raze the deck up a few inches due to the Seacrafts decks on the smaller boats seemed to be just a little to low for draining water through the scuppers properly. In this way the deck is supported all through the boat by resting on the raised stringer system. As to Strick he will probably catch this thread and set you up with pictures. But he used 2 by 8” I think and glued them together then used them as a reverse mold to build his stringers from. He did a fantastic job on his entire boat making molds like you would on original boat building to form his work and then pop out the glass fabricated piece to mount in his boat. He even did his own engine bracket this way. I am still marveling about that one. If I had tried that it would have taken me 10 times of practice until I did one correctly. Re: Foam Filled Stringer Grids
Hi kevin-
here is a link with the pics of the stringers. At the time I was not intending to make stringers but just some floor support were I tore out the splash well and added floor area to my seacraft. Bobby Wartman took it one step further and then Wilson Ayala took it even further then that by building an entire stringer grid sysyem for his boat. I suggest you look up their posts on ClassicMako. There is also a gentleman who redid an 23 formula that used this method. You can do a search on google for his site. I'll see if I can find it and post it later. http://www.casdvm.com/photos/stringers/ strick

Re: Foam Filled Stringer Grids
More about stringers.
http://formula23.blogspot.com/2004/1...stringers.html Also look at Hermco's site and you will see a Oceanmaster that he re-stored. If you look at the stringers it looks very simular. strick
