Default vent louvers?

hey all, I need some new vent louvers for the outside of my 78. Anyone know where i can order some of the same style?? All the newer ones I can find have a slightly smaller width than the originals as well as a different screw pattern. I used one on a badly damaged one on my stern but it was a pain in the ass filling in the old screw holes and trying to make sure the old hole was completely covered. thanx- craig

The ones that West Marine carries are the ones that fit most closely. I had to take a grinder and grind out the back a little to make it fit just right - it took 5 minutes and it is not noticeable at all ( I had R/R'd my entire rear vent receptacle so when I re-glassed, the area was a little thicker, thus the need to grind the plastic louvers a bit to fit.

The front vent replacements fit like a glove. The metal frame around the front vents, if shot can be duplicated by any tin-knocker.

Attwood Marine makes them. Like Alan said, you will have to shave off part of the back so it will fit against the outside of the inner liner.

Be careful, there are a lot of vents that look the same, but do not fit well as well.

Also, depending on the year SC you have, there are (2) different versions; the ones I have, vs the newer ones. I have a 1975 and the vents have about 5-6 louvers each vent. The newer style has many more louvers.

West Marine has the older version for sure. They had to special order because they did not have black in stock. They cost about $15-$20 per vent !

THE SEA-DOG VENTS I BOUGHT are a perfect match of the ones that came off my 1973 23' CC. I like them better because the are softer than the originals and can take a hit better without breaking. I agree that some are not the same and that you need to make sure what your getting. Keith
