Default 1970's SF20 Stringer/Self-Bailing Inquiry

I've been looking around through the forum pages and have noticed many people have raised there decks. My question emerges from not haven yet gotten a waterline for my boat....how much should the deck be raised? And how bad is the problem? Would good scuppers do or is raising the deck the best way to go? Don't want to sacrifice cockpit depth at the stern. Thanks in advance

Most guys with 20 footers and under that in length that are replacing the deck will raise it 2-4” due to the weight of outboard engines now a days and because of the scuppers being at or very close to the water line. If they have a 20” transom they are raising the transom height to 25 and some to 30” as well.

As for the 23 footers most guys have not raised the deck but sum are starting to. If I were going to do it all over again And put twins on a bracket I would do it for sure for the same reason. The 23 runs great with 1 motor with or with out a bracket but some guys really like the safety of twins. I don’t care for the extra weight on the stern and how the 23 sits in the water with twins.

i have a 23 with twin 130's it does sit a little loww in the rear and would raise the deck for now i'm going to install the ball scuppers to stop the back flow into the boat when we are near the stern as far as the safty of twins it only works if each engine has it's own systems especially with the "improved" fuel we have!!

I have an 23 with a single on a bracket. Floor is raised 1.5 inches from factory floor. No problem at all with bailing even with three guys in the back and a 65 gal bait well in the floor full. But I also have scuppers over the drain holes.
