A question I get all the time, and cant answer!

Any boater that gets on my rig, (and when the sun is out its amazing how the phone rings) asks me why the throttle is on the left. I just say its because that is the way it was made in 1973. But really, why was it built that way? I'm ambidextrous so it never bothered me even when I bought 10 years back. But watching guys run my boat go for throttle with their right hand and cant find it for split second sure makes me laugh!!

The 77 Master Angler I just got has it on the left and it takes a lot to get used to.
I'll switch it once I pull the boat for the winter.

My Master Angler also has it on the left.

I'm thinking of changing it, but it would involve both the helm and throttle

Carl Mosley is left handed . No, Don't know either, but being a lefty myself I like it now that i'm used to it.

Isn't Mosely a former fighter pilot? Throttle left/Stick right.

My 20 MA was lefty . . . you just get used to it. 23's were built the same way.

My old '73 23 SF was twin 2-handle binnacle-mount Morse controls on the LEFT side of the helm, controlling twin Mercury 1500 inline 6 motors. The motor controls were actually pretty much centered on the console. The hydraulic helm was mounted in front of the right hand seat. I had the throttles together on one binnacle mount, and shifters on another, just to the left of the wheel. It was very awkward, but as I only owned the boat for a few months, I never changed it.

I figured I would chime in too.. Our 20' 1978 MA (we were original owners; actually my father's boat) came from the factory with throttle on the left and stearing wheel on the right. You just get used to it. Every boat that I have owned had controls on the right, including my current Tracker made seacraft.
