I was thinking about maybe finding a diesel engine in a boatyard or buying one to put in, or should I stick with a gas engine?

parrotparty, you might consider making it into a Savage, which is basically a Sceptre with a center console and with the windshield off. Never been on one, but looks like a good compromise.

They would interfere and/or the CC would be at the far back of the boat.

My opinion is that to someone looking for a cutty, the Scepter represents a great value and may be worth slightly more to a knowledgable buyer. That said, you may have to wait a long time to get that premium price, particularly in this market. Add to that the additional cost associated to simpply the "conversion cost and time" to the overall cost of the project. Also, in my mind, adding another CC to the long list of those that are original is not worth the loss of one more Scepter. Just my opinion.
