Default 2 stroke ban??

After a recent trip to S FL I stopped and saw some folks in central FL and of coarse boating became the topic of conversation and one guy said the government has put a ban on all two stroke outboard sales. I disagreed but really didnt have any info on the subject. Any of you guys know anything about this?

I don't know about any ban, but the emmissions standards have gotten stringent enough that only the direct injection 2 strokes (HPDI, Opti, Etec) can meet the standards. I think 2006 was the last model year before the new standards took effect.

thats what I had said, the direct injection ( hpdi opti's) were still in production but this guy said no 2 strokes at all. And when I said a few years back the ETech commercial had said their two stroke burned as clean as a four stroker he disagreed. Anyway I dont think there is ban, but the more info the better. I would like to keep this hard head silenced!!

Go to the Evinrude website and copy the page about how clean the etecs are and how they already meet the future EPA standards that even the 4-strokes are having some issues with. That guy has no clue and is repeating what some other people think is true.
