Default Possible Restore

Ok gents, well my 72' 20ft'er is really beginning to show her age now and not being a qualified restorer, does anyone know a person or company that can take on the task at hand. I'm in the central CT area and would consider CT, MA and RI as possible restore sites. After seeing some of the makeovers on this site, i must say there are some true picassos out there.I have no idea as to the cost of such a project but since the boat is as old as me,i figure a one time complete overhaul would last me the rest of my fishing days. I guess I'd go for the gold and do the deck, transom, stringers, paint, gel-coat and anything else to restore her to showroom condition. If anyone knows a ball park figure i'd like to hear any input. Thanks, Dave.

Well, that is an open end subject, it is all subject to the type of materials used, the quality of the workmanship, plus you get into the "might as well" factor. Complete restores by a shop can set you back a fair amount, DIY can set you back in materials, but mostly time. There are certainly qualified folks here on the site, most of the ones I know of are in FL. Perhaps someone will suggest some from the up-nort area. Good luck! Nothing like seeing someone restore a classic SeaCraft!

In response to your posting, I believe there's a very competent shop on the south shore of Massachusetts that is certainly capable of doing all the work you mentioned. I want to say its name is Manta Marine, but I'm not sure. It has been mentioned a number of times on this forum along with pictures of some of their work.

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. I suspect someone will chime in with some more specific/correct information. I would only say that if you're going to pay someone to do it, it will be a very expensive dream project. Good luck.

Close, its Metan Marine. I fish the 25' Parker they redid and it still looks great. Seacrafts and whalers are their specialty.

Hey, Dave. Welcome to CSC.

Your best option will depend on whether the boat has sentimental value, (i.e. was it handed down from dad?), and how much spare cash you have laying around. I suspect a full restoration by a qualified shop will run you $20K - $30K. From a purely financial standpoint, you'd be better off selling yours and buying someone else's already restored boat, or an unrestored boat in good condition. These boats can be had for much less than the cost of restoration. The money you save can be used for a repower or other upgrades.

Not trying to discourage you, just sayin'

Dave

Thanx for the input guys, so you're saying the fifty bucks in my pocket wont get me very far well then how bout a full restore for a crisp $100!!! all kidding aside the boat "looks" great but has fallen victim to a soft deck in spots and the transom is getting, well, very iffy to say the least. People actually cant believe its a '72. Maybe i can sort out the want/need factor and come up with a happy medium. I'll sleep on it this weekend. Thanks again for all replies.
