floor drains

Ive got leak!! one of the brass tubes in My floor is leaking and needs replacement, has anyone tried to replace them with a threaded brass extra long thru hull? i found these in the west marine catalog and they look like they will work. what do yall think?

This is a common problem. The brass tubes eventually corrode and start leaking, which can cause the wood blocks that surround them to rot out. Check out this link on the subject from several years ago.

I replaced my floor drains with the threaded thru hulls from west marine .they won't sit flush with hull as the flange surface area is a lot wider than the stock tubes ,easy modification grinder with a sandpaper disk will take no time at all to get the rite angle .u might have to grind the nut also as it is a tight fit . I didn't cut the tubes once installed there is about 1/2 of threded tube above the nut that u can mount a hose or cap them off instead of drain plugs.

thanks yall, brass thru hulls are ordered! My wood is still solid just a little wet, I like the ides of the quick connect fitting! I might try that! Ill post up some pics of the project as I go.

While you're waiting for the tubing you might consider filling and re-drilling the holes.

The wood blocks that support the tubes are undoubtedly saturated if not rotting and leaking and that will be the source of your next water ingress regardless how nice the new tubes are. Filling all of those unseen voids is the key to doing that little job right the first time.

While you're waiting for the tubing you might consider filling and re-drilling the holes.

Make sure you dry out the wood blocks through which the tubes pass before filling with epoxy and re-drilling. And when you fill with epoxy, placing a plastic drinking straw through the middle of the existing hole before filling gives you a nice pilot hole when you get ready to re-drill. It needs to extend beyond the tape on both ends.
