Transducer Suggestions
Anybody know what options I have for a direct replacement of the below pictured transducer? I've been looking at the lowrance HDS stuff but I'm not sure that the transducer will fit properly. Any suggestions on what to go with? I'd like to do the install myself but I want to make sure I'm using the right parts before I start ordering anything.
Thanks! Click on the image for larger pic. |

I would be in a fever to get that off my hull. Lots of new, high tech low drag options for tilted element thru hulls out there depending on what you want to use. Here is what I installed. Very large, expensive and worth every penny. http://www.p2marine.com/marine-elect...nsducers.shtml

Moose is right. I've got the B164 (1000w) 20 degree. Outstanding performance. Not cheap, but worth the extra effort and money. I think the 600w is the B60 model. NO water resistance when running.

I have the B60 20 degree 600W. I just had to replace one after only a year due to a bad soder connection probably on the inside but usually they last forever. I bought and installed another one.

Excellent transducers installed a few on my friends boats.. They stay locked on to the bottom 3' chop at27 knots. Installed on a 24centurycc..
Matched with at simrad nss7 .No problem reading thermal-cline and bottom in 1800' while swordfishing and bottom dropping.... 38 ocean yatch Well worth the money... |

Martin, your transducer that reads the bottom at 1,800' is a 1Kw transducer? That's awesome and helps me decide what I need. I was thinking I needed to go to a more powerful transducer to see the bottom at that depth.

You are entering the fishfinder market at a very exciting, but confusing time. My advice is to do some research on THT in the electronics section. They have some very informative reading that is "stickied" and is worth your time to look at. There are also some very good dealers/sponsors as well that I have worked with that will provide you and exellent deal on the hardware if you are up to installing it yourself. Take your time and get educated as the there are tons of offerings but some are at an extreme cost. Many are worth it but many are also fleeting technology compared to what has just arrived or that is right around the corner. The key factors for me when it comes to buying fishing electronics are pretty simple. 1. Know what you want the unit to do to match the fishing you like. 2. Keep it simple. If you only need a fishfinder to do a few things don't by a unit that does 100 things. User friendliness of the software makes a huge difference. I hate combo units as the software is usually complicated and require huge, expensive screens to give you the resolution you need to see. Also consider making complicated adjustment underway in a 3 foot head sea. 3. Don't skimp on the transducers. They are way more important than the head unit.

Yes it is a 1 kw.. 200/50 htz..They are not cheap.. There are so many different styles of ducers now.. I would read up on them before you drop 1k just for the ducer.. Make sure your machine can handle it.. We use furuno navnet and simrad nss8.. I like the simrad better as it is very fast at plotting... My buddy swears by the navet stuff.. Its just personal preference

Thanks for the replies guys. After looking around at what's out there I'll definitely be going to something flush mount. Not sure what yet or how powerful but I'll be sure to match it with whatever FF I go with. I'm not planning on going too far out, B60 would probably be all I need for the bay and close to shore wreck fishing.
Any ideas on the best way to get the old angled piece off of the hull once I drop the transducer? Drop the transducer and give it a whack to see how good it's on there? I probably wont mess with it until I'm ready to install something new but I'd like to have an idea of how to deal with it before I start disassembly. |
