Default 1982 23 Center Console with 2008 200 Suzuki 4 Stroke

I have been searching the forums and have been unsuccessful in finding this combination Boat and Motor. I was hoping somebody on here might be able to give me a quick yea or neh on whether this engine is too underpowered. I have noticed that most everyone on here is recommending 225 and up, preferably 250. The Boat is a 1982 23 Center console with a regular open transom. I greatly appreciate any input. I currently own a 1972 23 restored Center console with an I/O and am looking at adding another.

I am a Suzuki owner of an often heavily loaded 23 Tsunami. I have the 250 but the engine like many others is the exact same from 200-250hp other than de-tuning to meet hull manufacture hp limits. Considering my sled with tower is considerably heaver than the CC and tops out at 42 knots, you will be fine with the 200. At worst you may lose a little speed at WOT as I am pretty sure part of the "de-tuning" is done by lowering the rpm of the rev limiter. In either case I wouldn't beat you to the channel marker if you were propped right with the 200.

Kmoose, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Do you have any suggestions on correct prop., also do you know how difficult it is to tune a 200 into a 250? Thanks again for your input.

I'm running a 16x21 3 blade suzuki/powertech prop that will allow me to bang the rev limiter of 6300 with no load. The DF series has a lower gear ratio that allows for a big wheel, offers tons of holding power and tons and stearn lift. I have a 16x23 on the shelf that is a wee too much for what I do but may be an option for you.

As far as re-tuning.... Well, I just confirmed that the df 200 - 250 series all share the exact same displacement so there is no physical difference enginewise. That leaves it to just two items: Fuel/air delivery and or ECM. I'd be willing to bet all differences exist in the ECM to which that would be all I think you need to find. Attached are the spec sheets for all showing only RPM redline changes.

If it was me, I would'nt change a thing unless it didn't meet my expectations. I'm willing to bet the the 200 outboard will show it's stearn to a small block I/O on the same platform.
