Default Master Angler prop

After quite a bit of research on this site I would like some advice on a prop. I have a 1977 Master Angler with a 1979 Mariner V175. I know the motor is too heavy but don't have the cash for a re-power at this time so I am forced to make the best of what I have. The boat came with a 21p quicksilver aluminum prop and I am quite sure it is over propped. I'm not sure if I should try a 19 or 17 to start off in my prop quest. I don't have any numbers as far as rpm but it does cruise around 25 mph and the lowest speed I've been able to stay on plane is 18-20 mph. Any help on a starting point would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

I think that engine is a 2.0L rather than a 2.4L. Either way that motor is NOT too heavy for the boat . . . It's well under 400lbs.

If it's a 2.0L . . . my suggestion is 17P highfive. It's not the fastest prop or most efficient, but it very smooth with little vibration and holds well in turns at high speeds. It's a good match for that hull and power combo. Make sure your engine height is set, so the cavitation plate is at least 1" - 1.5" above the bottom of the hull. Also you can use yamaha props with that engine . . . their old school aluminum and stainless props are inexpensive, pretty fast and provide decent stern lift.

If it's a 2.4L then I'd use a mirage 17 or mirage plus 17

If you want Aluminum props . . . I have a barrel full of good quicksilver props in every pitch from 15P to 23P. $30 delivered to your door (or 3 for $50) I just want them out of my garage.

Thanks for the info Bigshrimpin. I would like to get a 19 and 17 aluminum prop from you to get a starting point and get me by until I can get that high 5 you spoke of.
