Re: 1974 23 CC - project
Getting closer...keep up the good work
I have painted over the nonskid with awlgrip and it held up fine. My only suggestion would be to use a color that hides dirt and stains. You cant go wrong with Linex.... that's what I used on my 20. strick

Re: 1974 23 CC - project
Thanks guys.
I am going with a good cleaning, then a de-waxer, then a thinned prime-coat and thinned topcoat of perfection over the old non-skid. I have tested a small area and it should work. The deck is off-white. After 5 coats of Signature finish I called it done. I had applied the "3 coat system" and had a small area where I had a heater pointed @ the boat. Long story short the paint was going on to thin (my mistake). I took it all down with 220 grit and worked it up to 400ish grit and hit it 2 more times. Then I broke out the buffer and the 3M compound. I still need to wax/finish. It looks good now. color shot: Trimmings: I had help this afternoon so we got the transom cap back on and the rub rail back on. Budget has me re-using 1974 rub rail which is next to perfect. Gave the molded part thing a shot. Used tinted (white) epoxy, clay radius corners, and 1708 and tape to try to make my transom ice box lids. The first time I tried to mold a part it didn’t part with the mold This looks like it should work. I'll know more tomorrow.

Re: 1974 23 CC - project
Very nice work, I really like the color scheme, looks sharp w/ the white waterline and black bottom. I'm interested in how you clean up the gunwales back to the transom, please add a few pics if possible, thanks.

Re: 1974 23 CC - project
CaptDuke,
Thanks. My 23 was an I/O so I removed the cap in one piece after making 2 cuts. Others I/O owners were kind enough to let me know how to do it (thanks Alan/Bill). I was able to put it back and am glassing the seam. Its still a work in progress but I hope to have it squared away by the weekend. You can see my little molded lids for my ice boxes came out pretty nice for a rookie. Also I have been laying down the grit on my new/old hatches. The boat will be moved outside on Sunday so progress should SLOW. Most of my painting will be done soon. At least all I am prepared to do right now. I want to use the boat this season

Re: 1974 23 CC - project
Well this was my last weekend @ my shop space. I was able to put down the non-skid on the deck. I then hit the whole deck with 2 coats of perfection off white. This was mostly done to blend my deck repair. The main deck looks like an old deck in good shape that was painted .
With time up on inside space…...well...she’s a lawn ornament. My dog already peed on the console and tub I am happy with the new transom and the majority of the work. I have lots of parts to start throwing @ her now.

Re: 1974 23 CC - project
Hey Gang,
A brief FYI. I sent around my tank plans to 5 places. Its an 80 Gal tank based on my specs. I know some of you like 100+ capacity. After reading Wavelength's post (yea search function) I was glad I checked with RDS tanks. They got the job. Below is a list of the quotes. No names posted except the low bid(not bashing). Check out the spread RDS $724.00 place a $890.00 place b $810.00 place c $950.00 place d $928.00 note: only place D included the epoxy coat....and all prices include shipping. Oh yea the highest price was nearest to me. PS: Thanks to Rich @ Cape Marine Supply for the fastest shipping of a fishfinder ever Now I got something to do while I wait for my tank.
