Its actually booTy, but that would be a fitting nickname haha! Its a 56' DMR made in Maine. We think DMR stands for "Didnt Make it Right", but yes total tank. A friend of mine bought it after the 04 hurricanes after it destroyed all the other boats in the marina. My dad and i put the 2 hardtops and flybridge on it in 09-10. Used to be a lobster boat, then converted to a ferry in the bahamas, then was a treasure boat when the hurricanes hit. 14hours to Walkers isnt so bad at night. With the proper supplies... |

Man you do some clean work! Will the scuppers have a flap of any kind or just remain open?

Just open for now. Been on some bigger boats with a similar setup and they worked pretty sweet. Also the holes match the OD of a tennis ball so plugs wont be hard to find...

Not much of a visual difference but theres ALOT of hours before this 545 got sprayed today. Goal is to have bottom and sides painted this weekend
Untitled by dirtwheelsfl, on Flickr Heres the tow eye. I took a length of 1.25"? sched80 pvc and filled it with thickened epoxy/glass and bedded it vertically in the stem, then heavily glassed it in. Drilled some holes on either side of that, and took a piece of clay about 1" diameter and wrapped it around the glassed pipe and out thru the holes, then glassed around the clay on the inside. Afterward the clay got melted out with a torch and were left with an all glass wraparound hole. Got a few layers of cloth inside it as well afterward... Cutoff pieces from a friend at a local custom builder. Not sure where youre at but just ask around. Most shops would rather turn scrap foam into new saw blades or light bulbs than let it sit around taking up space... |
