Start of the 21 Production?
Anyone know what year SC started building the 21 model (well 20'5") versus the 20 (19'5") ...
thanks

Re: Start of the 21 Production?
I have been watching boattrader for a few months because I may decide on getting a used 21 in the near future. The oldest one I have seen anywhere for sale has been a 1998. A few times I have seen 21's for sale from the 70's but these looked to be the 20 from that period. My family or I have had seacrafts since 1977 and as for as I know there was never a 21 offered until the late 90's. The 21 seems like a nice layout and much larger than the 20.

Re: Start of the 21 Production?
Seafari - if you have the true length, beam, deadrise, and weight - that would be cool.
kajroxygurl - I have occasionally seen references to older 21 footers, granted, a lot of people are calling their 20s (which are really only nineteen and change) 21 footers... I want the 23 but I may need to wait my time so a 21 is an option now too Thanks, John

Re: Start of the 21 Production?
I had a 1969 20 seacraft and the layout sounds just like yours Bacdoc. The new 20 has the exact same hull as the old but the storage is not as good because of the reason you stated. That is why I like the new 21 because it has the full 8' beam and more storage than the 20. There is quite a bit of difference between the size of each.

Re: Start of the 21 Production?
Seafari - Thanks, that answered a lot of my questions! I will post them this weekend
Ok here they are: http://www.theboatzone.com/gallery/SeacraftDocs Do you know when that spec literature was released? What I've gathered shows that the current "20 Classic" is the common "20" foot boat of the late 60's and 70's. The late 60's models were called 19 footers as that's what they are as it had an overall length of 19 and change (anyone have the exact length? Is it the same 19'6" of the 20 current Classic?). The newer "21" of the late 70s or early 80s and the 18 and 23 models all have that lifting strake running across the front of the sharpest entry point of the hull. This is absent on the early "20" and current 30 Classic models. But the new "21" model claims an 8' beam instead of the 7'6" on the older 80's version and 400 more pounds. I'd be real curious if anyone else has more info to try to see when the 21 (or the bigger 20 depending on how & when it's labeled) came out. Chris, big thumbs up on that info, now I can really smell the wood buring Granted, this is some late night, in need of sleep rambling. I guess what I really need is a 23 hull that sank and has no motors for short money , then I'll cut a foot off the back to get the true 22 model I want (that doesn't exist)... Re: Start of the 21 Production?
I was in Outdoor World (Dania Fl.) looking at the new SeaCrafts and noticed that the new 21' looks more like my 1971 20' (than the new 20'). Both the new 21 and my 20 have a raised deck in the bow - the 21 has a double door fishbox while mine has a single door fishbox and a small dry storage box just forward of the fishbox. The new 20 looks totally different from my older boat - seems smaller.
Anybody with the older hulls notice this? |

Re: Start of the 21 Production?
John,
All the potter years till 79' were 19'8" 1600 lb hulls for CC. The tracker seacrafts came out in 87. These were made at the Tampa factory. Its Funny they didn't change the 20' MA hull? I will Send you 79' and MA specs. Chris |
