deck replacement on a 20 cc
I was wondering has anyone ever tried recoring the deck from poping the deck and cap off as one piece instead of cutting the deck away like I have seen in the pics on this site? What are the pros and cons of doing it, if you can even do it this way?
Thanks, George

Re: deck replacement on a 20 cc
George,
I once did it on a V-20 wellcraft. Seemed to work all-right for me. Made it easy to replace my bad stringers too and kept the origional gel on the floor in good shape but not perfect. I think on the SeaCraft 20's most people are also raising the floor a bit, so thats why they don't take the entire deck off. |

Re: deck replacement on a 20 cc
George,
As That70sboat said, many people that really rip into the 20's also raise the floor a few inches to facilitate self bailing. If you have the opportunity to ride in an older 20' that has not had the floor raised, I highly suggest you do so prior to making the decision not to raise the floor. There is simply no way to stand in the stern area of them without there being plugs in the scuppers with the original floor height unless you really enjoy wade fishing. |

Re: deck replacement on a 20 cc
George,
Like Mark said come stand in my boat to be sure you want it that way. I have to put plugs in to use the boat or go barefoot! When I redid my deck it did not occur to me to raise it and I wish had but with my weight it would have been a platform boat!!! Also, I added support knees on the hull to support the outside edge of the deck. I learned that from my first deck replacement. Bill If one is good then 2 is better |
