25” Transom and glass thickness

Does anyone know the thickness of the outside glass on the 20’ sceptre or SF transom (1970’s)? Assuming I taper the glass back about 12 to 1 on the repair, do you think the structural integrity will be as good as new if I do the repair from the outside? [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]

When raising the transom 5”, does this have any impact on a cable steering setup?

Anyone with a solution for the steering problem? Hydraulics would work, but its rather expensive.

Eb if you need to get a new steering system - those No Feed Backs are fairly cheap right? Not sure on the HP ratings probably below 150 but these systems are about $200. The Hydraulic is about $800-1000 I think...

I have my 20sf cc I/o in my shop with the engine and outdrive I can measure the glass tomorrow. My transom is about 3.5 inches thick.

The problem is if I raise the transom 5 inches, the splash well will be too low to run a steering cable. [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img] I would think Hammer and Tim D would have run into this?

Here is the picture. I really wanted to go with hydraulic steering, and will when I am forced to repower. For now the NFB works fine. I was happy to find that there was not too much "kink" in the cable, and I gave it a larger radius inside where it enters the bilge area. No problems.

Tim, thanks for the post I'm glad it worked out. I was worried that it may not fit. About the same time I posted this, Trayder updated Hammers pictures and a couple of us saw how he routed his cable. Looks tight, but I think I'll be able to work something out [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]
