Re: HULL CAP REBUILD
I PULLED MINE OFF MY 23’ OPEN FISH FLIPPED IT OVER REMOVED ALL THE CORK AND RE BUILT IT WITH 3/8” PLYWOOD EXCEPT WHERE THE OUTRIGGERS FIT AND ALSO WHERE THE STERN ROD HOLDERS FIT THAT WAS DONE WITH ½” PLYWOOD. I HAD A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS FIRST PROBLEM IS INSTEAD OF USING SMALL PIECES OF PLYWOOD AND PIECING THEM IN I USED LARGE PIECES OF PLYWOOD WHICH DID NOT FLEX WELL WHEN RE INSTALLING IT BACK ON THE BOAT. IF I HAD TO DO IT OVER AGAIN I WOULD CUT UP THE LAMINATING MATERIAL INTO MAYBE 1FOOT SQ. PIECES AND SCREW AND GLUE EACH SMALLER PIECE INTO PLACE. THE SECOND PROBLEM WAS THE BULK HEAD WHERE THE ANCHOR ROPE GOES. IT HAS A CONVEX DESIGN AND WAS DIFFICULT TO GET RIGHT I HAD TO WORK IN TO GET THE CAP TO REST ON TOP OF IT WITH OUT FLEXING THE CAP. I USES EPOXY RESIN AND GLASSED OVER THE WORK. AFTER I RE INSTALLED THE CAP I HAD TO USE FAIRING COMPOUND IN SOME PLACES TO GET IT FLAT AGAIN. THERE ARE SOME PICTURES UNDER 23 FOOTERS KEN MCGOVERN THAT SHOWS SOME OF THE WORK BEING DONE. I ALSO TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE EPOXY TO RE SEAL THE HULL AND THE INNER LINER TOGETHER IN SPOTS THAT WERE NEEDED. AFTER THE JOB IS DONE IF YOU DO GET ANY SPOTS THAT SHOW PRESSURE CRACKS YOU CAN ALWAYS GO OVER THEY FROM THE TOP BEFORE YOU PAINT THE CAP. I KNOW I AM GOING TO GO OVER MY ENTIRE BOAT AFTER ABOUT A YEAR IN USE TO DEAL WITH ANY LITTLE AREAS OF IMPERFECTIONS TO START TO SHOW UP.

Re: HULL CAP REBUILD
I am not sure what the cost is, but something like Divinicel(spelling?) might be a good bet. They are precut squares about 1 inch by 1 inch so it will lay well for the turns you have to make. Also, there is no wood to rot. Again, this may be very expensive vs. plywood. Good luck.

Re: HULL CAP REBUILD
YA THE CAP BECAME A LITTLE FLOPPY AFTER REMOVING THE OLD CORE BUT I HAD THE CAP ON 5 SAW HORSES AND IT REALLY DIDN’T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE ANYWAY. THE BIG THING IS TRYING TO KEEP THE NATURE CONTOUR OF THE CAP IN TACK. NOW IT IS SO STRONG YOU COULD PUT 5 GUYS STANDING ON THE CAP AND IT WOULDN’T FLEX I NEVER REPLACED THOSE TWO TEAK SUPPORTS DON’T NEED THEM ANY LONGER.
