I am looking at a 1973 today. It is a 165hp i/o model. It is on a trailer now. It was docked at a marina in the water before this guy bought it and that concerns me. He uses the boat regulary and it is in running condition. He is asking $3500. I need some advise on price and what to look for.

A 20' CC, that actually runs, for $3500? If you don't mind the i/o setup, sign the check and go fishing. You can pretty much assume that it needs a new transom if that is original, a new tank might be in order if that is the 1973 one still in there. However, this is the case with any 32 year old SC20.
Some have paid less, some have paid more, but "deals" are getting scarce these days. |

You didn't say where it was, so that doesn't help guage price much (boats are cheaper in FL than in MA).
If you use the search function, you will see a post like this about once a week. After reading through those, you will get an idea about how 20's are currently priced. |

Alright. It's in South Carolina. It has the original engine and outdrive. Hull ID SECF0404M74F. Seems to be solid on deck and transom, hard to tell without an outboard to swing around on. It cranks right up without a problem.
Has some blistering along the waterline on the back 1/3 of boat and on transom, I guess from when it was docked at marina. It is real dirty (no big deal). The wood behind the gunwale in the rod storage seems to be rotted (some sort of plywood core). Question. How far up should waterline be to top of transom when sitting in the water. This ones seems to be within a foot. I will say that the guy fishing out of it and his friends are some pretty big boys. DB |

Thanks Mark for your comments.
Thats what concerns me most. It looked as though water would enter the discharge of the bilge pump. Do these Inboard/Outboard Seacrafts ride low in the water, or do you thing something was amiss with this boat? |

Looks like I missed the boat (pun intended). Called Monday morning and it was gone, gone, gone.

not sure how long you have been in the market for an older SeaCraft, but they rarely last more than a few days if priced right.
