Rod Rack

Looking for ideas to build a custom rod rack that will be mounted on the ceiling of my garage. Would like to piano hinge entire top (tip ends) to a frame, and then suspend the bottom (rod bases). Thinking of building a solid pine frame around all four sides, storing horizontally, and dropping down (opening) to about 45 degrees, with two lines or cables as stops. I was hoping this would all fit inside of my bimini, which is also suspended from the ceiling. Anyone have any ideas/plans or seen anything like this before?

Unfortunately, it is too late to prevent all of my 4/0 and 6/0 from twisting after years of leaning up against the wall.

My garage/BOATHOUSE has urethaned crown and chair rail throughout and this will make a nice addition, most importantly getting more STUFF off the floor. Thanks, Vezo, Part II.

Your idea of hingeing the tip end of the rack assumes one of three things. 1) all your rods are about the same length, or 2)different support areas for different reels and tip to reel lengths will be built, or 3) multiple rod support crossmembers will be provided for different length/size rods.
I built my rod rack to hang/hinge from the side, so that when the rack is let down, the rods are all still mounted horizontally as the rack hangs down. It holds 8 rods, and is made from two old wood gun racks designed to hang on the wall, but lengthened to about 4 feet between the two supports. I use weak 1/4" bungee cord to secure them in case I accidentally instantly lower the rack by losing my grip.
I use a couple of old strap gate hinges screwed into the the wall 5 inches below the ceiling, and hook the other side with 1/4" nylon rope to a couple of bicycle hooks screwed into the joists.
It's simple, and cheap, and works great!

Here's an idea that might help ya I know it's not pretty, but it works. I utilized the dead air space in the garage. My ceiling is 12'. I built this 8'x 8' platform secured to the ceiling truss system like the garage door. All you need is 2"x 4", plywood, joist hangers and angle struts. The rods store underneath to prevent damage. It is about 7' from the floor for easy reaching. Coolers, camping equip, xmas boxes etc are off the floor. You could modify this conception to meet your needs. NO hingeing required...... Heres another Not so pretty But Works idea!
Cheap too! Ya don't need a 2x4 use a 1x3 & 2"pvc pipe.
Run the boards longer & You can add as You go.



Hing'n them would be tough as stated above,Rod length etc.
