23' Floor Drains
I am closing the original drains in my floor and planned to go out through my transom but was wondering if anyone has gone out each side of the hull?
Any thoughts? |

Re: 23' Floor Drains
I have a 25 Whitewater that came with the drains out the side. From what I gather they came that way from the factory. Whitewater has not been very helpful on providing me with any information on this boat other than they don't make it anymore. Don't know if I would buy new from them from my personal experience.
Any way the problem I experience is water coming back onto the deck with no way to stop it. The boat came with clam shell vents covering the hole which did nothing. I installed perko flappers to stop the water but when the boat rocked the sides of the hull move down and water pressure causes them to open, also while underway water can open them and cause water to come on deck. Then I got the bright idea to turn them 90 degrees so the flaps face back. (opening towards the stern) This helped plenty and they have been like that for about 5 years now, not perfect but it is better than it was. I would try to avoid going out the side. If anyone has any ideas I'm willing to listen. You can see the white perko with the black flap in the pic. Hope that helps.

Re: 23' Floor Drains
Hewes Bone Fisher has the same thing. Put drain plugs in when under way. Out when tied to the dock. Best solution to wet feet.

Re: 23' Floor Drains
That is what I do with my 20 SF but the Whitewater drains are just holes cut in the side no drain tube or fitting and the hole is oval shaped so it will not accept a plug. I could cure that with a little glass work but the Perko's are working OK for now.
