I'm losing my patience. Help w/ leak!
Alright guys, I need some input. My splashwell inspection hatch is leaking. I originally had a Tempress slam hatch. I bought a new gasket. It still leaked. I bought a new T&H "watertight" double gasketed hatch. It leaked. I exchanged it for another one, and it leaked. Glassed in the hole and made a cut out for a new Bomar hatch. I just checked it tonight and it is leaking. I have been plugging the drain holes in the splash well and filling w/ water. I have my rear deck panel out so I can stick my head under there. They are all leaking thru the gaskets btween the lid and the frame. I am losing my patience. I haven't had my boat since Dec!!!! I just replaced the gas tank and this is the only thing holding me up. I would just glass the hole over and leave it, but I need some sort of access to the bilge. Suggestions please.

Hate to say it but you might want to try an Armstrong Hatch - Besides a NASA Hatch they are about the best out there -
Armstrong Hatchs I used the 10x20 hatch and it does not leak!!!

Re: I'm losing my patience. Help w/ leak!
Thanks FJ. I'll keep the Armstrong hatch in mind. That is actually the one I was looking for but couldn't remember the brand. Anyway I just took the new gasket off of my old Tempress hatch and custom fitted it into the track around the frame of the Bomar hatch which has the gasket under the lid. I now have a seemingly watertight double gasket seal. I just filled the splashwell w/ water and and let it sit for about 5 min...no leaks

Ha CrokerLips
Could the water be coming in some other way??? Cracks or something like that?? Does the hole you put in for the hatch fit too snugly that could cause a slight warp?? Have you sealed the hatch with 5200?? And who nick named you CrokerLips????????????????????????????????? FellowShip _______________________________________________ My motto: Just for the Grins |

Re: I'm losing my patience. Help w/ leak!
No question about it, I seen it w/ my own eyeballs, the water was leaking thru the gasket between the lid and the frame on all of the hatches. I aint no glass expert & I hate caulking more than anything but I did a pretty good job on both. But like I said in a previous post, I custom fitted a secound gasket into the track around the frame and it seems to be watertight. I tested it again tonight before I put my deck back in and no leaks. I can already taste the flounder
Where did I get the name Croakerlips? On my first fishing trip, my uncle was on another boat and said he was going to call me Croakerlips on the radio since I hadn't named my boat yet. My dear mother thought it was funny and taught a baby cousin of mine that my actual name was Croakerlips. It was cute at first so it started to stick. She is 9 yrs old now and still calls me Croakerlips. Half the family now calls me Croakerlips. I stopped fighting it a long time ago. Hence I am the one and only Croakerlips!!! (like it or not) Dan |
