Water pickup/transducer

Hey guys I'm rebuilding a 20 a trying to decide where I should install my water pickup and ducer. My only concerns is that they both work at full speed. I need to make sure I can mark bottom while running. I was thinking about installing the ducer basically under the leaning post and the water pickup in my bilge area. I will be installing a livewell under my leaning post so it would be easy to have a water pickup go straight up into my livewell but I'm worried it would create turbulance if my ducer was mounted behind the pickup. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I spoke with someone I have a through hull tranducer that is mounted through the centerline of the hull about a foot or so away from the very rear of the boat! (was there when I got the boat) He told me that with it mounted there it will slow the boat down a little bit Causing turbulent water around the lower unit of the motor???I may remove it and patch the hole.

Check Airmar. They have a flush mount transducer that will fix your problem. 600w triducer around $200. Better than patching a hole.

I plan on mounting a flush mount ducer but I didnt know if the water pickup was in front of the ducer, if it would create a bubble trail that might mess with the ducer reading. Thanks again.

Mine are on opposite sides on my 23'...both about the same distance from the transom. I'll get a pic if you want one.

Last time I went to the canoe races, I was the closest to being arrested that I have ever been in my 46 years. I was boarded 4 times in one day. The last time I had alot of liquid courage. All most got a b.u.i.

I kept the water pick-up on the starboard side although Airmar reccomends theirs be on starboard. There are no issues....even the electronics sales guys said it's put on port all the time with no problems. They are both about 12" off the centerline. In the bilge is 6"x6"X3/4" plywood w/3 coats of epoxy. It's been 4200 down and all screw holes, etc. If and when the floor comes up I would rather have them glassed in (future project). If you install a water pick-up the "correct" way is to have a true sea-cock and not just a fitting or valve. Just my $.02 Good luck!!
