Default Need help locating an Air Jet for Yamaha carb

Took the carbs off a 1988 Yamaha 175 to clean out the junk. When I was reassembling the last carb, I was tightening the Main Air jet (which is a little brass screw with a whole in it to allow air into the carb)and the head of the screw broke in half. I was able to back it out and the carb is fine, so i just need a replacement. Here's the kicker.. Yamaha no longer sells the part individually and they don't even list it with a part number any more. The only way to get a replacement is to buy a new carb for big bucks.

The size of the main air jet is 200.

I have scoured all the local outboard shops looking for a replacement. I have found 190, 210, and 270. I can not locate a 200 anywhere.

Does anyone know of some back alley shop that would carry a bunch of older Yamaha carbs that could be parted out or bought full for a reasonable price?

Thanks.

Rich

As long as the hole in the jet is not disturbed you can file the rest of the broken head off and carefully cut a new slot for the screw driver. The diameter of the jet's hole is all that matters. I have 2 of 6 like that in my 150 Johnson. Not sure of the thread size of your jet but go to a hardware store and find a nut with the same threads, wrap a tiny bit of black electric tape on the jet thread and screw it into the nut. You can then hold the nut with pliers or a vice while filing the jet.

It is possible to redrill a jet. Possibly the next size smaller could be located and redrilled to a 200.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I actually found one in MO of all places. Really helpful people over at http://www.yamaha-rebuild.com/.

If I couldn't find one I was going to get a 190 which is a little smaller and bring it to a machine shop and see if they could drill it out to a 200 spec.

Try the back of Eagle Marine in Sagamore. They had a little scrap pile when I was there the last time. Not sure if they will allow it, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
