Livewell options on a 20 footer
Longtime lurker here, previous seacraft owner as well (23 footer).
Have had my eye on a 20 footer for many years, but the lack of livewell options moved me to getting into a hewes light tackle. I'm thinking of going back to a hull with more deadrise, aka a 20' seacraft but am hesitant to give up my ~60 gallons of livewells on the hewes. Anyone out there that does a lot of live chumming and live baiting with their 20' hull that could show me some pics of their livewell setups? Thanks -T |

Re: Livewell options on a 20 footer
I had the same issue, the SF20 IMHO would have to use a leaning post and baitwell setup. I was lucky enough to find a Master Angler which was designed in '75 because of the popularity of live baiting. I have never had any issues keeping bait even overnight unless the water was really hot and no current, so if you can find one that may be the ticket.

Re: Livewell options on a 20 footer
I do a lot of livebaiting out of my 20fter in south florida. I have a simple yet effective setup with a 40 gallon tank behind the leaning post, and a 1100 gph transom mount pump. Easy to put together and it keeps a ton of bait alive. Make sure to add a shut off valve at the tank if you use this method, otherwise the transom mount pump will pick up water when it is off and you are moving

Re: Livewell options on a 20 footer
i use a similar setup as madangler, but my livewell is in the bow, right in front of the console. its a big livewell(45 gal) so it wouldnt fit under the leanpost even if i wanted it too. i use the washdown intake and have 12 feet of hose pumped by a rule 750 (i think); i was worried it would not be enough water flow but nothing has died yet. we use my boat as a bait boat a lot to prep for tournaments(lots of big baits) and ive got no complaints about the setup thus far. my favorite part of this setup is that it is fully removable; when not in use, hoses get coiled up and stowed, baitwell goes to workshop and is replaced by cooler. when i first got the boat i built a "custom" livewell out of glassed marine plywood and bendable luan and mounted it under the leanpost. not the brightest idea id ever had. boat ran like garbage and was 80+ lbs dry...

Also, thanks to everyone who's posted pics. Seems like the under console is a popular setup. Anyone run feed and drain hoses under the deck to keep the floor clean of hoses? -T |
