transom configuration

My Tsunami transom was built for twin engine and someone cut a notch in the center of it for a single. The lay up of the transom seems original except for the upper half on the transom above the bait well on the inside. It seems some thickness could have been added. The outside of the transom matches at the correct thickness at the deck and mates the deck as it does on the sides. Therefore, the outside does not look like it has been added to or changed. However, the transom fiberglass on the outside and inside are each 1/2" thick and the plywood core is 1 1/4". Does anyone know if this is the normal way the twin engine hull was made? I expected the transom fiberglass to be maybe 1/4" thick or maybe 3/8", not 1/2" and the inside I expected would be 1/8" or maybe 1/4" thick. It seems like the fiberglass is heavier and the wood core thinner then what I would have expected to see. Can anyone tell me what they found on their transom configuration on their 23'? From the posts I have seen on this forum I did not realize that the inside fiberglass layer folks have been cutting out, to replace the core, was 1/2" thick! Is it? I highlighted the fiberglass in black in the photos.
