Default scary...

this is a job in the shop: old potter built 23 it's getting a bunch of needed repairs

this is the well inside the console - at on point in time,there was a head mounted in here - 2 thru hulls

check it out...

this is how i found it...

that's a garden hose shut off - used as a sea valve - nice huh ?

the other thru hull - that was "filled" by some one ...

here's what i found after i removed that thru hull and pulled the well...

what was under the hull - on the bottom - was equally as scary - the hole was never glassed - the gel coat was never removed and the glass prepped - nothing ! i can't believe this "repair" didn't fail...when i opened it up and ground it out,i popped the "plug" out - it was still tacky...

Wow, when they picked it out at the hardware store they probably looked at the plastic ones and said to themselves; "I'll get the good one", lol.

It does not surprise me. In one of my old boats (23cc) someone had simply screwed a 4"x4" piece of plywood on the bottom of the boat and then went inside the cc were the old plumbing thru hulls were and poured resin over the holes. Let it cure then removed the wood on the out side. Went I went to fix it I tapped it once with a chisel and it popped out leaving me with two nice 1.5 inch diameter holes in the bottom of my boat. I guess some people are just lucky.
