Seacraft masters of the universe, marada hull
I'm a younger guy...I've recently fallen in,love with seacraft hulls...I get a lot of crap from an older brother who wants to go half on a yellowfin or contender...but ultimately I want to end up with a 20 or 23 seacraft and do a custom build, as much as my bankroll permits..
Having said that, I have a question that I'm hoping you seacraft "masters of the universe" can help answer. I've been looking at a 23' seacraft molded hull built by Marada with a 300 hpdi. I wouldn't be surprised if the marada guys find this thread.... I've never heard of them or anyone that can speak to the quality of the boat or its comparison the potter built hulls and mold... Does anyone have any opinion on this? I'm selling my current boat and getting married soon....but if I could get a deal on what looks like a quality boat I'd pull the trigger. Should I look deeper into this or would I be better off saving for my custom potter built? Totally clueless here. Help! Thanks everyone |

I'm unaware of any SeaCraft by Marada. SeaCraft used to race against Magnums and maybe Marauders back in the 1960s but I know of no way to relate SeaCraft to any Marada.
you can get a 23 SeaCraft for a fairly reasonable price, but contenders and yellowfins are gonna cost quite a bit more in most cases. The seacraft 20 is a a different category altogether. there is a big difference between the 20 and the 23.

If you really want a Seacraft, get a Seacraft. While this boat looks like it does use the Seacraft style hull, you got to wonder why a 2003 boat needed a complete rebuild. Also, the 300 HPDI's have a pretty bad history. Save your money and get the real thing.

Marada made a variety of boats, primarily for the fresh-water boating market. The hull is a type of variable dead-rise. but the vertical hard chines are more like 14* degrees from vertical, and the outer hard chine actually turns down at the edge. The planing surfaces are decreasing angle of entry, again like the Moesly design, but the inner planing angle is only about 20-21 degree deadrise, and at the keel line, there is a 4" wide flat planing surface.
The photo below is from a 21' Mirada bow rider. The line drawing is what the hull shape looks like from the rear.

Save your cash for the real thing, unless you can buy it super cheap.

Never heard of Marada boats before now. Did a little internet research(you get what you get). Not much there, the company is out of business. From what little I found, they sound like seriously bad junk, unprotected wood floors covered with carpet, etc. A 2003 needing stringers should be a warning sign. I think I found your boat, can't tell much about hull shape from the pics. In general, if it was me, I'd pass, way too much risk, at any price. For 12K, you can find a nice 23. If you are really patient and want about the best rough water hull you can get in anything under 31 ft, hold out for a 25 Seacraft Seafari. If not, there are plenty of 23 Seacrafts in every possible condition and price range.

No bugs but I think it may be stone crab season and that might pose an opportunity for a short venture out to do some digging. Mmmmmm clams and stone crabs steamed in beer....
