Overturned boat Sebastian Inlet this morning

Very sad news as a 70 year old man has died and i believe 3 more adults are at the hospital as their boat overturned at Sebastian Inlet around 11:00 this morning. I was supposed to be out there today but my buddy cancelled and i decided to stay home. Wish i went, maybe i could have been of help. Positive thoughts and prayers...

getting conflicting reports from on line news, one reads 70 year old man, the other reads 7 year old boy....

newer report is it was a pontoon boat. they also stated the deceased was a man and not a boy....

that inlet can be challenging depending if the tide is going out or coming in. Prayers for the family.

outgoing is no joke, and it was just that this morning. but the rough stuff is typically on the east side of the bridge. the boat was said to be 200 yards west. tried checking footage from that time but cant make anything out. http://www.sebastianinletcam.com/

I used to put my seadoo in every weekend about 12 years ago. East of the bridge was tricky for sure.

Very sad story - what a horrible feeling it must be to not be able to help someone trapped under water, hard to imagine.
Pray for them and learn from this accident. I hope the details of how the boat overturned become clear. I always thought of a pontoon boat as very stable. I also would not have thought that the conditions in the river would be so treacherous. I guess this proves neither of those assumptions are correct. Maybe a failure of one of the pontoons, who knows.

The news channels are always wanting to be first on the scene, first to report "breaking news". The accuracy seems to be secondary. Somebody apparently said that it happened near the inlet and it was assumed that it was in the inlet.
I have seen that area in the icw get pretty rough, especially in a north wind. The information that was reported that day at the inlet recorded a gust of 31 mph at some point in the day. I don't know what time that was, but I don't think I would have taken that boat out there if it was blowing that strong.
