anybody want to plan something for next year? i ran across 5 more that are recuited and all in, just not active on this board. it may be an alternate "option" to those who want to go to the MOAG but not willing to travel that far. this event has the capabilities from drawing the owners up and down the east coast. maybe 30+ boats. if anyone is seriously interested, we need to start a recruit team of locals from the charleston, jacksonville, wilmington, savannah, treasure coast florida, outer banks, virginia beach on up, etc...
a recruit team of 10 committed boats from jersey to miami. i can volunteer from Savannah where I'm confident I can get a commitment of 10 local seacrafts of all vintages.

Mel and I really like Savannah but the first step towards a successful gathering is finding an acceptable venue that is affordable and has dockage for all attending. Also consider trailer parking, food and the type of fishing available.

NoBones is the quintessential master of the gathering logical task and knows what it takes to put one on. You may want to touch base with him on what it takes. It's quite a bit of work but we all share the load and the gatherings are well worth the effort.

captainDH, It is really not that difficult to make one happen...

Having been involved with gatherings on this site since 2004 and
Capt. Chuck hosting several of them at his house in Stuart back in the day.

As Moose said find a place that can handle all aspects of what this group needs to accommodate its needs... The camping thing we tried worked until mother nature had other ideas !! (See Anclote Key & Long Point @ Sebastian Inlet)

Find a "Cracker style" type place that has dockage, rampage and
a central area for hanging out....

Savannah has a few of those type places..

For us upper Florida boys that is a do-able trip !!

If you just take the bull by the horn and set a date (enough in advance)
they will come...

Willing to bet you that I could put 35 plus people together for a
weekend gathering not even advertising it !

After all these years the bond that has been created with our fellow
members having had at least two gatherings a year speaks for itself..

Just Do-it !!

We need to start a scallop gathering thread HAHA.

Hello Cape Cod! Are you listening???

1 find a place
2 Offer up dates
3 Enjoy.

If you can`t set a date, it will never happen.

Set the Date.

thanks bones... yes i used to have several bluewaters and did multiple crossings to Treasure, grand, walker's back in the day, and Lucaya with those guys.. great group. biggest problem on those trips was when you set the dates, and you travel 400+ miles dragging your boat, your committed, rough crossing or not.. those guys said i had huge balls to cross in my 2150 when the 2550/2850 guys elected to wait it out another day, i told them as long as i had a buddy boat to run with, we gone.. this is my vacation time and i have a room reserved over there, not south florida. we always were safe. may have slowed to 14 knots and had to wear snow ski goggles, but always had a super safe float plan. we did get stuck over there one year when it was just not smart to cross to return home (6-9 head sea with 25-30 kt winds) and had to miss work, spend more money on a room, etc. but i am certainly willing to go to the MOAG next year as i truly miss double breasted and all the other places i have been.
i am a native savannahian and i'm not so sure there is such a place as you describe that has the hang out area, dockage, and ramp. with a hotel close by as well. none of the marinas will have 30 plus boat accommadations for overnight dockage. i'm not so sure this event shouldn't take place in either charleston SC, Jacksonville, St. Augustine, or even Stuart FL. we only have 4 marinas even close to capable and i am happy to name them and explain why I don't think they would work. if this event was only 10-12 boats, it would be a different story, but i can see this thing being 40 plus.
thoughts?? we need bigger facility for all us crackers!
