I have one of these that has come in handy over the years although I dont remember paying that much for it. There should be enough room to get a measurement with this little tool.

Do your self a favor and spend the $10 and buy one ,cause if you go by someone’s word and it turns out to be off then you’ll be kicking your self in the $ss when the bracket dosent sit properly.
“Just sayin”

You should be able to fit the small side of the square between the Motor mounts , if not yank the motor , you’ll be happy you did , I see a lot of guys on the water and their brackets look ridiculous cause it isn’t level with the boat .

I measured from the hull outside edge on both port and starboard side with carpenters square. I also measure as tight to engine on both sides. all three produce 3.75 assuming I have a 15 degree transom. would you guys trust this or do I really need to pull motor and measure off of keel? I measure many times between motor and the outside edge just couldn't get centered on keel. imready to order my bracket otherwise.

Go to the Armstrong site. It shows how to use square to determine transom angle. Most are about 15 degree. 1 degree either way won't be noticeable or affect performance.
