Battery switch failure

Check your battery switches guys. Blue Seas 5511e has been in service 7 years or so. I noticed the "detent" had gone soft. It basically fell apart when I began removing cables. The plastic lugs for the small screws failed. This holds the unit together and there's no reason that I know of the end user would ever remove them. I sent an e-mail hoping it's covered under their warranty. We will see.......

That’s lovely. Great way to see how well they back their product... My Perko ran until selector one would no longer make contact until passing it, headed to both, and back to number one. Could have probably cleaned contacts. I have Walmart batteries here in Fla, 4, almost 5 years old. If they fire off the Etec I’m going to run on Both, hopefully trolling for Gags this week. This was a known failure for a particular run of these switches. They redesigned the switch and did replacements for a while but that was a few years back. You also have to make sure you don’t over torque the nuts when installing and make sure all four mounting lags are secure.
Even with proper installation all battery switches can fail. I always make sure I have a small pair of vise grips in my tool kit just in case so I can clamp two leads together.

They say a replacement is on the way and that the E series were not part of the "known failure" group. We will see
