20 CC Fuel Tank
I just bought a 1971 20' Center console. I need to redo the deck so I am planning on putting the tank below decks. Any advice to manufactued brands that really fit well for the most fuel. Also, what are peoples impressions on a 130 vs 150 outboard.

Re: 20 CC Fuel Tank
I found it at a boatyard. 71 20'CC with 115 Merc (posibly original), blown powerhead, trailer, hull is excellent shape but deck needs some work and transom I assume does. The price was right though. Picking up friday

Re: 20 CC Fuel Tank
I think Trayder bought one off the shelf for his. He had the same problem with the tank above deck. search the site or ask him.
BTW, where and how much did you pay for the boat?? |

Re: 20 CC Fuel Tank
EP, I assume your boat is the same configuration as mine. Mine had a (very leaky) 35 gal tank under the front seat in the console. I replaced it with a custom built aluminum tank made somwhere down in FL. I can't for the life of me remember exactly where I ordered it from but I think it was about $200-$250. If you do a web search I'm sure you'll find some decent builders. One thing I can tell you is that at that time (3-4 years ago) none of the standard size alum tanks you see in catalogs fit under the console. One piece of advice- order way ahead of time, mine took close to 2 months to deliver. If you're ripping up the decks anyway you might want to consider putting one or two bigger fuel cells under there instead. The 35 gal tank is a bit small. I was trying to keep my refit as simple and original as possible. (read:cheap) Check out some of the rebuild pictures here, some show fuel cell refits under the decks. The advantage of placing it under the front seat is that it gets the weight as far fwd as you can possibly get. Also one thing to think abt is the fuel overspill valve. My mechanic looks at me funny every time I bring her in and groans "you know they stopped putting fuel spills inside the boat 30 years ago". Think about running it to outboard stbd side. Good luck.
