Transom and splashwell scuppers - no more
Hey all,
We filled every hole in the transom and splashwell and have now, after much consideration, decided not to replace them and direct both sets into the bilge. Don't freak... here's my reasoning: It's a trailer boat and may spend 3 days in the water at a time and only if the weather is nice. It's a 5 month season up here. The bilge has been painted and will be set-up with a Rule-Mate 500 GPH pump mounted in a special "niche" that Tom ground out and re-glassed to let the pump sit low and flat right at the transom. In addition, a Rule-Mate 2000 GPH pump with be mounted 1-1/2" higher discharging via a seporate 1-1/8" smooth id hose and fitting. Finally, the Jabsco high pressure washdown pump will be mounted next to the 2000 with a diverting valve so it can also be used to pull water from the bilge through the HoseCoil in a pinch. Hoses from the various fittings send the water directly to the bottom of the bilge and are well secured to the transom. The boat will be fitted with (2) 110 Ah deep cycle batteries giving a usable 50 Ah. That should be enough to manage a thunder shower while away from the boat. Offshore? Well, we're on Lake Ontario and yes, I expect to take some water into the splashwell. But we only back down on docks, not fish and are pretty picky about the weather on the big Lake. Naturally, it's pretty important to pull and leave the plug out while on the trailer. Worst case senario, we can always put it back the way it was. Tom loves drilling large holes in the boat. Any comments? Otto
