Default PAINT QUESTION

Hey All, My transom looks like S**t from the previous owners repair job. I sanded it (outside only) and filled out gouges and cracks with west system epoxy. Next I faired and barrier coated. I browsed thru the shelves and found Interlux one part polyurethane, pettit one part and two part paints.I also called sterling for their paint color chart. I was thinking I'd go with the one part interlux polyurethane since it seems simple and the transom will probably be re-done correctly in a year or two, and get a good coat of two part sterling. The question is, has anyone used the interlux with any success? and what is the best way to approach the roll and tip method? Which rollers, brushes, foam, etc... Also is thinner recommended and finally how many coats? Thanks Marc.. I chose Hatteras off white to match the original 1973 gel coat.

HA MARC
I painted my 23 in and out with Sterling about a 1 ½ years ago still looks great. I also used the one part polyurethane Interlux in a few small arrears like inside the center consol and the insides of the hatches which were ruff as well they didn’t need such a elaborate paint job since the glass inside there was unfinished anyway. I like the stuff and it works well. I think you got a real plan for now you could get buy with just a quart and be done with it until you do the whole boat. As for the method I would uses the same method I used with a two part paint use a good foam roller ¼ “ thick maybe 4” wide and then a real good brush. I didn’t use any primer on the inside of the center consol but I would follow their recommendations about primers. Always remember 3 light coats are better than 1 thick coat. You can get buy with using a little less quality brushes on the first 2 coats and then use your best brush for the last coat. Always wet sand between your coats.
