Default would this work?

The original deck in my boat is good shape, and I dont have loads of money and time to raise my deck, so I would like to keep it at the original height. My question is would it be effective to have the drains plugs come out the port and starboard side of the boat instead of the bottom, like you see in some flats boats? I would fill the hole in completely and redirect the hole to be through the gunnel. I am not too big on having the drains go straight through the bottom. I dont have my boat up here at school with me yet, so I cant see it, to see where the deck is in relation to the waterline at that point in the boat. I would think that that point in the boat is more forward of the stern, in front of those rear boxes, so would maybe be higher.
Thanks,
George

Default Re: would this work?

Ha George
Personally I would have a real concern draining my boat out the sides close to the water line of the boat. If I was going to change mine I would go through the transom that way you can use a number of devices to prevent water from coming back into the boat. Another way would drain the water into the engine sump area then the water would go through the transom scuppers. You could use your same idea but just channel it in to the sump instead of drilling hole in the outer hull at the water line. Or you could use “THE VORTEX” would cost you just $1.00 and one six pack of beer to make them. They work great and will prevent the water from coming into you boat from the scuppers that go through the bottom of your boat. If you look back on the board you will find the thread called “THE VORTEX” and you can read all about it its under the general headings I think.
