Bill Potter's personal 1979 20 Overnighter Rare

No, that is not a typo. Yes, the overnighter was a real boat (the last one Bill Potter designed for SeaCraft only 12 built)

This is a total redo and upgrade of a 1979 20ft.Overnighter which Bill Potter did for one of his sons who, unfortunately, cannot use it. This was the last model Bill designed for SeaCraft and it is an ideal family fishing boat with a full canvas enclosure. It has a 2003 Evinrude Ficht engine with less than 100 hours mounted on the Seamark single engine bracket. The price is $39,000 which is what it has cost. The 20ft Overnighter was introduced in the summer of 1978 as a '79 model to replace the 20ft Scepter. Bill Potter's SeaCraft only built about 12 of these boats before the Tampa crew took over in 1980 and ended their production. It is one of Bill's favorite designs!
The inner liner is the same as that used on the 20ft Seafari with the v-berth and head capability. The redesigned cap deck with the walk-through windshield and sliding hatch system gives easy safe access to the bow while retaining comfortable overnighting capability and good lockable storage. The self bailing cockpit has been enlarged by closing the transom and covering the old motorwell so it provides a full width seat or raised casting deck. The SeaMark bracket with its boarding ladder gives easy access to the boat from in the water or on the trailer. The boat with its full canvas enclosure can be used on the trailer as well as in the water for overnight camping. SeaCraft actually ran an ad about 1970 showing the Seafari, similarly equipped, on top of a mountain with the caption "Sleep Aboard Tonight Up A Mountain!"

No, new or used, seems to me the only time you collect on your investment is when you get out on the water and enjoy the boat.

It sure is a pretty boat. And for all sence and purpose should be considered brand new.
You can't really buy much in the way of a new boat for 39K these days....

A 1969 I/O model is pictured being towed in the mountains behind a large Olds wagon and the text seems to suggest with some seriousness that the boat can be used out of the water as a camper!

Features are described thusly: "These features include 6'6" upholstered V berths. Self contained flushing toilet. Screen doors. Alcohol stove. Washbasin/sink with running water. Folding dinette table. Two insulated ice chests. And storage lockers."

It also reads, "The SeaCraft Seafari is completely self contained for living. On water. Or on land." [sic on all the periods.]

Another line: "Out of the water the Seafari is a trim, comfortable camper."
