Default Painting bilge?

I've noteiced many people paint their bilge area. Is it recommended, to help seal against water or just cosmetic? My 1974 SF bilge has not been painted and I was wondering if I should consider this. Also, wouldn't I need to remove the paint if I needed to do an glass repairs.

Is this your way of telling us that you bought the i/o, or is this another boat.
If it is the i/o,having the bilge painted or coated will certainly make cleaning it a lot easier. And you definitely need to get through the paint to repair glass.

Both.

Painted with shurwinn William's Tile Clad HS. A true epoxy paint designed to paint the inside of water tower's.
When we all redo these boat's attention to detail's make's a so so job, step up a few notch's. Painting the bildge and having the wire run's neatly laid is part of it.

I don't like Gray bildges. They look dark and dingy.

I think I have Seacraftitis. I bought a 20 1974 about a month ago on a whim. It was for sale at a bargain basement price and in all original, just needed some tlc (cosmetic) care. I now might have the opportunity to swap my 1993 Grady Gulfstream for a 1973 23 SF I/O, with money back. I haven't decided if I want to yet as that 23 Grady Gulfstream is a sweet boat. I am currently asking about the 20 SF. If painting is primarily for looks, I will probably not paint it, as maintenance would be more difficult down the road.

Nice looking bilge! I see you have a cleanliness issue like myself. The bilge definately looks nicer painted. I like to keep thing original as much as possible. I have stripped the teak out, cleaned and oiled it, my next project will be pulling the bow rail off and cleaning and refastening. etc etc. I just need warm weather.

warm weather would be nice. The painted bilge is nice. I would think it would be easier to spot any potential problems. Swamper, I was wondering if I could take a peek at the boat. I've been pretty bored lately with the cold and snow. Wish I had a garage. Plus now I'm curious as to what you paid. I paid 2500. for my Seafari. Tom
