NEED HELP WITH FLOOR DRAIN REPAIR!
i finally think i isolated the leak into my bilge. it seems to be coming from the port side floor drain. so i want to replace both sides. i need as much detail and information available on how to do this. or if anyone in kendall area wants to get a little extra cash on the side and help me with it thats welcomed also. i dont wanna take my boat out again until i get it straightened out. please help if u can. my seacraft surely will appreciate it!

Re: NEED HELP WITH FLOOR DRAIN REPAIR!
time permitting i did some more inspection on my drain liner. it feels smooth inside of it with no deterioration apparent. but on the bottom of the boat it does not feel that good. seems like i can get a finger nail inbetween the hull and the tube. was thinking thats where the water comes in. any other ideas on this problem?

Re: NEED HELP WITH FLOOR DRAIN REPAIR!
They need to be replaced
If you're talking about the brass thru hulls for the deck drain/scuppers ... the tubes are probably corroded and letting water seep into the hull. They need to be removed, area dried, and new tubes put in. In the case of a 23 hull, atleast, these tubes are mounted in a block of wood ... so they need to be dried after removal of the old. |

Re: NEED HELP WITH FLOOR DRAIN REPAIR!
scott, my boat is a 20 SF. i did another little test tonite. i put a plug in the bottom of the brass tube and poured water in the drain past the top almost level with the deck. opened the rear hatch and watched. could slowly see water running into the bilge from the bottom. previous owner had already tried to repair this by putting what looks like thickened epoxy down there.. looks sloppy. so i think i will remove the old tubes, let the wood or fiberglass (not sure what they are mounted in) dry and fill with epoxy and redrill for new tubes. i hope this is as easy as u guys make it sound.

Re: NEED HELP WITH FLOOR DRAIN REPAIR!
i decided im going to let the surrounding wood dry out for this week while im out of town. when i come back just going to lather the brass tube in marine tex or 4200 and stick it back in the hole. im hoping the easiest way is the best way.

Re: NEED HELP WITH FLOOR DRAIN REPAIR!
If it is like the 23 and I believe it is this is what you got. There is a gap approx 4” from the underside of the deck liner to the top side of the hull. This is the reason why you need a 6” brass through hull tube to replace the old ones. BUT the problem goes deeper that that. In that space they stuck a chunk of wood encapsulated in glass. They drilled the hole through the deck, wood, and hull to insert the brass tube. My guess the wood is totally rotten out and all you got is black mush in there. First thing to do is remove the tube and start scratching around in there if it comes up reel wood great if it comes up mush you will need to replace that mush with wood or filler first. Some guys have drilled out from the top of the deck a larger hole down to the top of the hull removed the old wood cleaned it up then filled it up and then re drilled the proper size hole for the new brass tube. Good luck

Re: NEED HELP WITH FLOOR DRAIN REPAIR!
the wood inside the block is good. it made dry sawdust when i put the 1" drill bit down there to rough up the surface and remove the last of the old silicone. what a releif. so i can continue with my marine-tex installation of the brass tube. and im going to be assembling some of "THE VORTEX"'s to install in my drains.

Ah yes “THE VORTEX” Classic SeaCraft’s most valuable secret. I use mine every time I go out.
