Default Factory Options

Gang, Just a stranger here but am wondering about different factory options that may have been available on some of the 20' models. I am the very happy new owner of a 1974 SF 20 (purchased from MassBass via the site) . It does not have the unique non-skid pattern on the deck some like other 74's in the gallery. Also the fuel tank is in the console rather than under the deck. I could go on to mention that the rubrail is stainless instead of the black and the "SeaCraft" hull stciker is black letters on a white background instead of just letters on the hull. Were these just different options availabe for the original buyers to choose from or should I be taking a closer look at that serial numebr to confirm the year of the boat?

Hi Hermit, the fuel tnak should be in he floor They started that in 74' some where on the site is a list of options, I think that canvas cushons, gel coat color and seats where about all you had a choice on. What is the hull number on it? Maybe the floor has been re done and some on installed the tank in the console?? the last two digits on the hull number will give you the year it was made might be a real early 74??

My 1972 20' I/O had the gas tank in the console.

My 1970 20' has a 40 gallon tank under the console.

Gang, Good info. The boat has a title that calls it a 1974. After looking at some of the info (thanks for linx JonG)and some of the replies it seems like a 1970-73. The boat is all original condition and in good shape. The SeaCraft tag is in the slpashwell, is that where the serial number is? I can barely read the thing I will try to post the #s. Maybee its a late 73 or ealry 74

Look for the hull number on the outside of the transom on the rightside near the top in the gelcoat. If its not there its probably pre 72', if I remember right before 72' they didn't need hull numbers.

No hull number on the outside of the transom. Everything looks similar to the '71 with the exception of the rod stogage in the gunnels. They do not run all the way to the anchor locker like the 71 they look more like the 1970 boat:

Now that I look at this the non skid on "diversion" is the same too. I am still working on getting some #'s off the sticker. TH

OK the silver seacraft sticker in the splashwell has a ser# 1304...thats it. Rod storage resembles the 69-70 boats pictured on the site here.

Sound like its earlier than a 73' then if is has no hull idnumber in the transome, thatwould expalin the differant pattern on the floor your mentioning. Does it have the stainless vents on the side? If not its a earlier boat for sure I now the 74's had the vents, the 73's Im not sure about , but the 73's did have the tank under the console but a 73' should have the hull id in the gel coat. Sounds like its pre 72 from your description. The hull ID in the gel coat would start with the letters and a combo of numbers and letters after that. SEC.......74 the last two are the year it was built. Sound like its an earlier boat because you have no hull id in the gelcoat and you have the silver tag instead. There was a posting here a while back about the tags your talking about.

OK. After many searches of older posts with a similar topic, I have discovered that my 1974 20' is a 1970. Seems that the 1969 20's had some unique touches that mine does not have and the 1971's rod holder storage was moved forward where it seemed to stay for a bit. A few very nice members sent me a few PM's of there 1970 20's and well it's a match. I have already started de-construction and have the old motor off exposing the transom skin the the hungry skill saw and pry bar.
